Since her death 200 years ago, Mother Seton’s possessions have passed through the hands of her family and loved ones. Many of these items eventually came to Ferdinand Jevons, Mother Seton’s great-grandson and last of her descendants. Upon Mr. Jevons’ death in 1969, the collection was entrusted to the Sisters of Charity of New York. Earlier this year, out of a desire to inspire a wider public with the legacy of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, the Sisters donated the collection to the Seton Shrine.
The Seton Shrine is pleased to present this special exhibition of the Seton-Jevons collection. It includes Elizabeth’s personal items rarely seen by the public: her wedding brooch, her daughter’s christening gown, and the only bonnet of hers known to have survived.
