On June 8 the Shrine was the happy recipient of the Joy Reese Derr Award for Outstanding Museum-Community Relations. The award was given by the Frederick Historic Sites Consortium and named in honor of the first chairperson of the Consortium.
St. Joseph’s Valley was privileged to host the Sisters of Charity Federation meeting which was a wonderful opportunity for the various groups that stem from Mother Seton to visit their origins. The spirit of St. Elizabeth Ann was very much alive during those days of grace.
The number of large pilgrimage groups coming to the shrine has been remarkable. This has included both young and older visitors. An entire school from kindergarten through the 8th grade asked to come on pilgrimage. The Little Sisters of the Poor brought 580 visitors from their Eastern Province.
We are now looking forward to the 25th anniversary celebration of the canonization of St. Elizabeth Ann on September 10 at 2:00 p.m. All are invited to participate in this special event and join us in giving thanks.

Secondly, throughout the year 2002, charisma retreats of varying length, format and location will be offered to sisters and associates. Thirdly, a pilgrimage to Dax, Lourdes and Paris, France is scheduled for July 2003.
