  • Bicentennial Celebration Weekend
    July 31, 2009 - August 02, 2009
    Weekend events  will mark the journey of Elizabeth Ann Seton to Emmitsburg, Maryland. You may participate in day pilgrimages, the premiering of The Seton Legacy DVD, attend the blessing of the Bicentennial Garden, special liturgies, and be a part of the live Reenactment Procession.   • Opening Day of Bicentennial Weekend Celebration
    July 31, 2009
    The days events include:
    • Opening celebration beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Basilica. Welcome to all guests and visitors.
    • Premiere showing of The Seton Legacy DVD
    • Reception in the courtyard

  • Day 2, Bicentennial Weekend Celebration
    August 01, 2009
    Today begins with a liturgy at 9:00 a.m.  Scheduled activities throughout the day include the viewing of the The Seton Legacy DVD, bus tours of local sights, concurrent sessions and a walking tour of the historic buildings and archives.  Concert in the Basilica at 7:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. followed by refreshments.  Free admission.

  • Day 3, Bicentennial Weekend Celebration
    August 02, 2009
    Witness a reenactment of Elizabeth Ann Seton's arrival in Emmitsburg complete horse drawn Conestoga wagon leaving the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto at 9:00 a.m. (public invited to walk along) and arriving at the Shrine grounds at about 10:15 a.m. 
    Blessing of the Bicentennial Garden (view garden) begins at 9:30 a.m.  In the afternoon browse the Shrine historic buildings, the Basilica, and Visitor Center; rest and relax while watching The Seton Legacy DVD. Liturgy in the Basilica at 12 noon - admission open to ticket holders only

  • 235th Birthday Event Planned
    August 30, 2009
    The birthday anniversary of Elizabeth Ann Seton will be celebrated in the Basilica at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, beginning with Mass at 1:30 p.m.  Special honors will be paid to women and girls named Elizabeth Ann or Elizabeth. Following Mass, the birthday party moves into the Courtyard for refreshments, face painting, games, and music.  Free admission.


  • Annual Pilgrimage for the Sea Services
    October 04, 2009
    The public, especially men and women in uniform and their families, are welcome to this 3:00 p.m. Mass in the Basilica honoring those who serve in the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. Mass is highlighted by the Presentation of the Colors and the music of the Naval Academy Catholic Midshipmen Choir from Annapolis. Full story from 2008 and details for 2009 here.


  • Feast Day of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
    January 04, 2010

    January 4, 2010 is a special day honoring the aniversary of the death of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.  It is also a special day that closes the bicentennial year for the Daughters and Sisters of Charity throughout the world.  Join us for Mass at 1:30 p.m.
